Project Description
This project started with a simple goal: create a space that feels welcoming, timeless, and unmistakably theirs. Our clients came to us mid-build on a modern timber-frame garage with an apartment above—cabinets already ordered and the realization setting in that they needed help pulling everything together in a way that felt intentional and family-friendly. From tile and paint to wallpaper, lighting, furnishings, and bedding, we helped shape every detail.
We quickly landed on a playful palette of crisp apple green and soft denim blue—colors that feel spirited, coastal, and full of charm. Before making any selections, we spent time understanding how the family envisioned using the space. From there, we designed each room around comfort and connection. Classic upholstery, warm woods, and natural fibers brought balance to the home’s modern architecture, grounding it in a collected, approachable aesthetic. Our custom pillows and upholstered pieces—made through our workroom—add a thread of continuity throughout.
Every choice was made with real life in mind: durable performance fabrics, finishes that hold up beautifully, and lighting that reflects this family’s love of Key West’s funky, cheerful energy. As pieces arrived, we layered in rugs, textures, and accessories to build a relaxed rhythm—one that supports both big family gatherings and quiet weekend visits.
The result is a space that feels lived-in and welcoming from day one—proof that thoughtful, personal design can bring generations together without compromising style.
Custom Design Details
Kids' Room Daybed Wall
We designed a custom built-in daybed wall that created three dedicated sleeping spots for the grandchildren—cozy, functional, and perfectly scaled.
Eat-In Dormer Nook
One of the dormers had an incredible view of the Chester River but challenging proportions. Standard furniture wasn’t going to cut it. We designed two custom built-in benches with cushions made through our workroom, paired with a custom table sized specifically for the nook. It turned into one of the family’s favorite spots.
Coffee Bar Dormer
On the front dormer, we extended the cabinetry plan to create a charming coffee bar. We styled it with a Stickley Slipper Chair in a Thibaut fabric and a fun ceramic garden stool—fresh, functional, and perfectly in tune with the rest of the home.
Elevate Your Living Space
The space that we design will look just as stunning 15 years from now as the day they we’re finished. To achieve this, we start with the timeless foundation of traditional design, ensuring every room has strong, classic “bones.”
We’re not afraid to embrace bold choices, whether it’s a pop of color or a striking wallpaper that brings personality to your space. Above all, we design with real life in mind—creating family-friendly rooms that balance beauty with practicality.
